KENYA POWER ON THE SPOTLIGHT

The Kenya Power Lightening Company (KPLC) recently rebranded itself to Kenya Power (KP) with a move to improve its service delivery to their clientele throughout the country. However this is not the case in the Gachorue sub-location in Karuri, Kiambu County.

Speaking during the launch of the Kiambu District Trader’s Workshop at the Kiambu Community Hall last week, assistant chief to Gachorue sub-location, Mr. Simon Kangethe alleges that in his area there are two electric posts which are in the middle of the road near the ACK Emmanuel church which needs to be removed with immediacy. He said that the electric posts were posing great danger to the public owing to their location which is adjacent to the church.

Mr. Kangethe added that it is disheartening to note that the agents from the Kenya Power were not responding with adequate urgency even as his office makes efforts to inform them of the predicament. He said that he is still waiting for Kenya Power to act as there has been no communication offered to them ever since they raised there complaints to them on that matter.

Expressing concerns, Mr. Kangethe pointed out that it was a pity that a whole company like Kenya Power is yet to establish an office in the whole of Karuri area. He said that the nearest Kenya Power post could only be found in Kiambu town which is miles away from the area incase of emergency. According to Mr. Kangethe he termed lack of a Kenya Power post in his area as a failure on the part of Kenya Power even as they claim to improve their service delivery to the public.

It should be noted that our efforts to contact Kenya power officers in charge of the Karuri area proved futile since no one was there to affirm or dispute the allegations. The Kenya Power has now been put on the spotlight on what exactly is their position concerning the two electric posts on the road that is now turning to be a safety hazard. And even as they embark on their rural electrification programs the public wants to know what are they doing exactly to improve their service delivery and how safe are their initiatives to the public
