Drama
unfolded at the Kahawa west phase two in Kiambu county last Friday when
a section of a one storied building belonging to a business tycoon was
demolished by a city council worker under unclear circumstances. The
demolition which took place very early in the morning was done by a
city council tractor under watchful eyes of a controversial senior
surgent Joseph Mathenge.
It
all started with a land dispute over ownership when the alleged
complainant, Mr Samuel Kariuki said he had been paying land rates to the
city council since 1992 and that he had all the documents and receipts
to guarantee him full ownership of the land.He informed KNA that five
years ago a lady, Mrs Mary Kamau who is also a city council worker,
started claiming ownership on the same piece of land and the
woman even went ahead and threatened him to stop constructing his house
on her plot.
The
complainant who says has a court order dated 22nd November 2012 about
the same issue said that he was surprised when two days prior to the
eventful day he had been summoned by the area senior surgent who warned
him that in two days time the house would be brought down if he did not
go and see him.
The
city council tractor labeled KAW 824 Z which demolished the front side
of the said house was said to have been mis-appropriately used by the
city council worker who went against the rules and regulations code of
conduct and ethics of the organization on the use of organization
facilities.
Mr
Mathenge who had threatened the land owner is allege to have sent two
ministration police officers at the scene of incidence who guarded the
house as the demolition took place. when contacted Mr Mathenge refuted
the claims stating that he was in Kahawa West for official
duties on patrol and not anything out of malice. However, the
contrasting information given by the senior surgent on his involvement
with the scandalous plot of land left a lot to be desired concerning
what was his exact interest on that piece of land.
Efforts
made to contact the area district commissioner in Kasarani was
fruitless. However, a word from the the area division commander Mr
Joseph Wathome confirmed that they were no aware of any demolitions
being carried out in the area.
A
visit to the Nairobi city hall annex to confirm whether they wee aware
of any demolitions being carried out in Kahawa west but they denied the
allegations. Mr Andrew Gathenge who is in charge of demolition said
that it was very wrong for staffs to use company facilities without
proper jurisdiction . it is confirmed that the man who issued the rights
for the tractor to be used in the demolitions is now a wanted man as
the scandal continues awaiting a court case.
